Stopping Diabetes

Who We Are

Lifestyle Center of America is a 501c3 nonprofit group of people whose mission is to increase the health and vitality of human beings around the world.

What We Do

Many of you know us from the residential Stopping Diabetes Program we ran for over a decade. If you’re a graduate, we’d love to hear from you. We still have the same mission we’ve always had, we’re just achieving it differently. We’re developing a growing list of resources and experiences that show you how to achieve sustainable weight loss which we found to be an underlying need in most of our patients.

The Full Plate Diet Book - Our New York Times Bestselling book, The Full Plate Diet shows you how lose weight by adding fiber-rich foods to the meals that you are already eating.

The Full Plate Diet Weight Loss Program - Do you keep finding the weight you lost? Most of us do at some point. Our new small group weight loss program is crafted to help lose weight and keep it off. You don’t have to be an expert to facilitate The Full Plate Diet Weight Loss Program. In eight sessions participants learn:

  •  How to enjoy a full plate and still lose weight and still lose weight
  • The 55 foods in your grocery store that can help you lose weight
  • How you can escape the yo-yo dieting trap
  • The 10 weight loss tools successful losers use unconsciously
  • How you can lose weight even if you feel like giving up

Weight Loss Retreats - Periodically we plan get-a-way experiences where you can learn more about a high fiber diet, get inspired with new ideas, and try adventurous foods all in a peaceful, relaxing environment. We run these retreats at our Oklahoma retreat center, which is also serves as our organizations headquarters. We’re planning our next retreat now. If you want to be contacted just let Amy know.
Blogs, Videos & Recipes - Our authors and support team spends between 10-20 hours a week developing blogs, videos and new recipes to provide tools and inspiration for your journey, no matter what stage you are in.

Support Network - We’re building a support network for those of you who have access to the internet. Our Facebook page is a hub for a growing number of our fans and so is our Twitter profile. There’s also our community forum on our Full Plate Diet website. If connection is what you are looking for, these are great places to visit.

Why We’re Doing It

The Lifestyle Center of America is the legacy of its founder, Dr. Otey Johnson. Trained as a physician, Dr. Johnson instead spent his life resurrecting and ultimately growing his fathers oil business. Raised as a Seventh-Day Adventist, Dr. Johnson wanted to take his understanding of health to help those around him, especially in his home of Ardmore Oklahoma, which is located between Dallas TX and Oklahoma City. Before his death in 1984, Dr. Johnson established a foundation to see that his dream was realized. The Lifestyle Center of America opened its doors in 1996.
