  • 2 cups whole wheat pasta of your choice
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 cups diced canned tomatoes, with liquid
  • 1/2 cup Hunt's Tomato Sauce, No Salt Added
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)

Cook pasta according to package directions and drain. While pasta is cooking, in a medium saucepan, saute onion and garlic in oil until tender, about 3-4 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients to sauteed onions and garlic and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer sauce 10 minutes. Pour sauce over pasta.

If you have diabetes: Cut the portion in 1/2 for better blood sugar control.

Haven't made this but there is absolutely no way that 2 cups of pasta with sauce, which is the stated serving size, is only 387 calories. 2/3 cups of whole wheat pasta is minimum 200 calories!
